Jimmy called me about two weeks after we helped them at the mine up on the hill. They had fourteen people killed in an explosion under their mine. That happen back in 1945, but it wasn’t a mine explosion. They killed 14 kids that worked in that mine and tried to make it look like it was an explosion. So we had to go back in there and try to find all of them, but without the help of Charlie, we never would have found them because Charlie came through the ground to get help after twenty years. Charlie was a ghost. So when Jimmy called me, it kind of surprised me because I hadn’t talked to him in a while, but he said they needed some help on this one. I said, “Help on what?” He said, “Looks like another place, they say they have ghost in it.” I said, “You have got to be kidding me. Where are these things coming from?” He said, “It looks like they are telling the others who helped them the last time, and so you got elected to come to them.” “Me? it’s your job to help those people. I don’t work in there anymore.” I asked him, “Has Hank got back from school yet?” He said, “Yes, and he can’t do anything with them. They are mean, very mean.” “And where are they at?” He said, “In West Virginia.” I asked him, “Are you going to be there this time with us? I do want Hank there.” Jimmy told me, “We can have anyone that I want to be there.” I ask him, “Can you get Charlie?” He said, “Now there are some things I can’t do. If I could bring him back from the dead, I would sure have him there helping you.” I said, “Yeah, I would to. When do you want me there?” “Tomorrow morning if you can get there.” “Okay, have my crew there, we might need them.”

Everything you think you know is about to change. My name is Lucifer. You can call me Lucy – I’m also known as the Devil and Satan, though why my idiot brothers came up with those nicknames is beyond me. I’m an Arch Angel and I run Hell. Yup, I’m the CEO. Hell is easy. Hell runs like a well-oiled machine. Punishment befitting your sins is carried out and once your sentence is done, voilà, you get to go to Heaven. Simple. Easy. Until suddenly there’s a blip on the radar. A breach. Some numbnuts on earth are trying to open a portal to another dimension. A very bad, very terrifying, very deadly dimension. So instead of my simple life in Hell, I end up earth side, where nothing is as it seems, looking for the soul-stealing monster, avoiding the grumpy angel sent from Heaven and finding out my brothers Michael and Gabriel are twats. That last part’s not true – I’ve known they were twats all along. With an unexpected fondness for my new human friends as a distraction, and my demonic presence stirring up trouble of epic proportions, all I want to do is go back to my peaceful life in Hell. But someone has to save the world. It may as well be me.

Hotel Life

The Story of a Place Where Anything Can Happen

Author: Caroline Field Levander,Matthew Pratt Guterl

ISBN: 1469621134

Category: Social Science

What is a hotel? As Caroline Field Levander and Matthew Pratt Guterl show us in this thought-provoking book, even though hotels are everywhere around us, we rarely consider their essential role in our modern existence and how they help frame our sense of who and what we are. They are, in fact, as centrally important as other powerful places like prisons, hospitals, or universities. More than simply structures made of steel, concrete, and glass, hotels are social and political institutions that we invest with overlapping and contradictory meaning. These alluring places uniquely capture the realities of our world, where the lines between public and private, labor and leisure, fortune and failure, desire and despair are regularly blurred. Guiding readers through the story of hotels as places of troublesome possibility, as mazelike physical buildings, as inspirational touchstones for art and literature, and as unsettling, even disturbing, backdrops for the drama of everyday life, Levander and Guterl ensure that we will never think about this seemingly ordinary place in the same way again.

It was just the two of them in the gallery. Lobo turned to JK, Van Gough was intensely disturbed you know. He saw the world through different eyes. Just look. Who in their right mind could imagine a night like that? He swept his long arm out and pointed at the painting in front of them. The tiny canvas contained an image of stars surrounded by halos of light through blue-black space and a landscape undulating with energy. His mind reeled as he was abruptly dragged back toward the dreamscape. His heart raced as he struggled to compose himself. Im sorry. This is fascinating but Im late for a meeting. I have to run. Lobo laughed and the shadow of something alarming emerged from within his sophisticated exterior. The eyes that looked back at JK glittered with an animal intensity. Well you can run, but you cant hide Mr. Kimble. JKs life is in ruin. He is a reluctant dreamer in a world where dreaming is a disease. He has lost his status, his job all his money and is on the run to save his life. His only allies are a street gang, a madman and a beautiful angel he doesnt believe in.
