Love should trust the heart instead of the eyes. It was a lesson Adam didn't learn before he fled the Highlands after seeing his beloved Evan cavorting with his former lover. He believed that his eyes couldn't deceive him and Evan's betrayal destroyed him. It sent him into hiding in his London dwelling and compelled him to hire guards to keep Evan away. He couldn't bear to see Evan ever again. But a guardian can't avoid his ward forever, especially if his ward is the Prince Regeant's Godson. Being called to account by the Regeant was as inevitable as being forced to see his ward. Even if his ward was the lover who betrayed him, duty demanded that Adam safeguard Evan and his future which must include marriage to a lady fit to be a duchess. Evan understood that Adam believed he'd been betrayed. Even if Evan could convince Adam to trust his heart, could he entice his dutiful guardian into breaking every rule? And if he did, how could they share a future forbidden by his royal Godfather

This carefully crafted ebook: "The Ring and the Book (Unabridged)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. The Ring and the Book is a long dramatic narrative poem, and, more specifically, a verse novel, of 21,000 lines, written by Robert Browning. It was published in four volumes from 1868 to 1869 by Smith, Elder & Co. The book tells the story of a murder trial in Rome in 1698, whereby an impoverished nobleman, Count Guido Franceschini, is found guilty of the murders of his young wife Pompilia Comparini and her parents, having suspected his wife was having an affair with a young cleric, Giuseppe Caponsacchi. Having been found guilty despite his protests and sentenced to death, Franceschini then appeals—unsuccessfully—to Pope Innocent XII to overturn the conviction. The poem comprises twelve books, nine of which are dramatic monologues spoken by a different narrator involved in the case (Count Guido speaks twice), usually giving a different account of the same events, and two books (the first and the last) spoken by the author. Robert Browning (7 May 1812 – 12 December 1889) was an English poet and playwright whose mastery of dramatic verse, especially dramatic monologues, made him one of the foremost Victorian poets.

After devilish Drake, an American born English Earl, collected the carnal collateral he required to secure the large loan sought by impoverished Duke Max, the debt was the last thing on either man's mind. Drake was comfortable in continuing their physical relationship behind closed doors while he sought publicly to secure the respectable life he'd always wanted and never had. Max was most uncomfortable with his attraction to another man, and the idea of being the devil's dirty little secret made him downright rebellious. Drake's dark past destroyed his ability to love, and his quest for respectability meant that even if he'd found his heart, he could never offer it to Max. That would destroy them both. No, Drake needed to teach Max to stay in his place and in his bed, but quietly and calmly and most importantly, confidentially. But nothing about the volcanic mixture of forbidden desires and rebellious hearts boded well for keeping their sensual secret, so the devil had to find a way to make Magnificent Max as obedient and willing as he was luscious and irresistible. This is Book Two of the story of Max and Drake.

Coupled: When Ring flees Turkey for London after Ali's betrayal, the Sultan must abandon his country and all of his ambitions to pursue the passionate perfection he found in the arms of the man he can not live without. It might require a touch of magic.

As a half-breed who would never belong to his tribe, he sold himself for food, shelter and survival. As the Savage Lord who would never belong to the ton, he sold himself for social acceptance. As a man with nothing left to lose, he's learned that survival doesn't mean as much as self-respect and he'll never sell himself again. Keeping that vow might cost him his heart, his soul and his future. Colt grew up under the not so tender care of the stepfather who named him "Sky Who Walks" as a permanent reminder of his blue eyes that proclaim he can never be a real warrior. Disowned by his stepfather for disobedience after he tries to rescue his mother, Sky survives by trading the use of his body to widowed squaws for food and shelter. When the Earl who had abandoned his mother claims his son, Colton Simon Haversham trades the use of his body to society ladies to gain acceptance to the ton. Disowned by his biological father for refusing to step into a marital trap, Colt Star makes his way to California, vowing never to tread English soil again. The Earl arranges for Colt and his partners to buy a claim, a cabin and a commercial lot in Hangtown, a California gold mining camp. Then he sells the remaining interest in the venture to Lady Viv, an English ice princess whose independent soul craves a future that does not require her to sell herself into a loveless marriage. Can Colt's Gypsy partner and an English Duke gifted with a sixth sense force him to face his love for the lady he scorned? Will Colt tread the soil and reconcile with the father he foreswore? Looking at Magnificent Max turned otherwise sensible folks a wee bit barmy. Max didn't understand the reaction until he met Drake, the other newcomer to English nobility who never expected to inherit a tawny title. Then Max understood completely and not a'tall. Max was no 'molly.' He had no sexual interest in men. He just couldn't convince his body of that fact - especially after the destitute circumstances of his new dukedom forced him to seek a loan from the devilishly audacious newcomer.Drake was accustomed to being sought for his fortune, but he wants to share much more than filthy lucre with Magnificent Max. Fate delivers Max to Drake's study, hat in hand, lacking anything of value to secure the large loan he needs. That gives Drake grounds to demand collateral of the most carnal sort. But when their delightful dalliance turns into a blaze too hot for even the devil to tame, will it destroy them both? This is Book One of the story of Max and Drake.

A People's History of the United States

Author: Howard Zinn

Category: History

This is a new edition of the radical social history of America from Columbus to the present. This powerful and controversial study turns orthodox American history upside down to portray the social turmoil behind the "march of progress". Known for its lively, clear prose as well as its scholarly research, A People's History is the only volume to tell America's story from the point of view of - and in the words of - America's women, factory workers, African-Americans, Native Americans, the working poor, and immigrant laborers. As historian Howard Zinn shows, many of America's greatest battles - the fights for fair wage, an eight-hour workday, child-labor laws, health and safety standards, universal suffrage, women's rights, racial equality - were carried out at the grassroots level, against bloody resistance. Covering Christopher Columbus's arrival through the Clinton years A People's History of the United States, which was nominated for the American Book Award in 1981, is an insightful analysis of the most important events in US history.
